ABSTRACT

Arghun’s brother, Gaykhatu, 1 succeeded to the throne in Jumada II, the fifth month, of 690 H; 2 but he was not inaugurated until almost a year later. His reign lasted to Jumada I of 694 H, barely four years. Although he also took the Buddhist name of Irinchin Turji, 3 he used both names officially. During the mourning period in 690 H, Gaykhatu immediately re-established the financial diwan according to Buqa’s system by recalling Arghun’s former team from Naysabur.
