ABSTRACT
In spite of Hulagu's support, Khubilai 1 was unable to keep the empire together. As it fragmented, the central province of Samarqand came under increasing pressure from the Chaghadaid and Ogedaid houses. The tension ultimately involved the third province, creating major constitutional crises for Abaqa.
