ABSTRACT

Introduction The increased mobility of modem society, brought about by developments in motor transport, has contributed to acidity in lakes, and increased air pollution and consumption of resources. The desired development towards a sustainable society demands that the needs of people and activities can be satisfied through long-term, sustainable mobility - that is, through using information technology, minimising the length of journeys and maximising the use of sustainable means of transport. From a sustainability perspective, walking and cycling are superior to other means of transportation.
