RICHARD CARLIN commissioned the first edition of this Dictionary as the founding publisher of a cappella books and then the second edition as the editor of Schirmer Books. He is the author of Classical Music (1992) and his own "biographical encyclopedia," The Big Book of Country Music (1995), among other texts on music. MARK DANIEL COHEN is a New York-based art critic, sculptor, and graphic designer.
