ABSTRACT

The movies Movies selected for this decade from our random sample included two Bond movies: Guy Hamilton’s Diamonds are Forever (1971) and Lewis Gilbert’s Moonraker (1979). There were two comedies: Woody Allen’s Bananas (1971), and Arthur Hiller’s The In-Laws (1979). And there was the thriller, Michael Winner’s Scorpio (1973) and David Miller’s drama, Executive Action (1973). Outside of our random sample, we have chosen for comment the following: Ivan Dixon’s The Spook Who Sat by the Door (1973); Guy Hamilton’s Live and Let Die (1973); Henri Verneuil’s The Serpent (1973); Irvin Kershner’s S*P*Y*S (1974); Sidney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (1975); Peter Collinson’s The Sell-Out (1976); William A. Levey’s The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington (1977); Don Siegel’s Telefon (1977); Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now (1979).
