ABSTRACT
If the missionaries and others were hoping that the indigo dispute was finally settled due to the recommendations of the Indigo Commission, they were sadly disillusioned. The planters, still seething with anger and discontent and determined to discredit all those responsible for their recent humiliation, instituted criminal proceedings against Long for libel in the Supreme Court of Calcutta in July 1861.
