ABSTRACT

Suppose that you and another person are serving as subjects in an experiment and have completed a task which provides no basis for evaluative comparisons of performances. The experimenter then says that you alone must decide between two alternative distributions of rewards; that is, you must decide how much you and the other person are to be paid. One alternative (A) would, if chosen, give you $ 4 and him $ 1; the other alternative (B) would give both of you $ 2. Which alternative would you choose?
