ABSTRACT

Party platforms play an important part in the democratic process as expressions of what the parties will do if elected to office. This work examines several aspects of the platform selection process and seeks to find equilibrium conditions for the process in the context of a two party system operating with majority rule. The frequently expressed doubts concerning the truthfulness and usefulness of party platforms will be avoided in this paper by the assumption that the party elected will have dictatorial powers, and thus will be able to (and will) implement its platform as announced to the voters.
