ABSTRACT

Community Education offers a menu of principles and activities that through partnerships with others concerned about community life uses learning strategies to transform people’s lives. It is a philosophy and an array of practices that respond to the learning needs of community members, initiating services and linkages to resources as directed by those who are impacted by such. Community Education espouses the belief that by working together formal and informal education not only enhances individual lives but also has the potential for strengthening communities and impacting society at all levels. Learning is a means for supporting change and thus preparing people for independent lives while also creating the foundation knowledge for designing productive interdependencies that must exist in civil society. Collaboration is a key strategy for community educators and so through partnering with multiple resources and stakeholders offers the means for sharing and connecting local resources to focus on humane, social, economic, and other development.
