ABSTRACT

Children respond to a large number of hypnotic induction techniques, strategies, and approaches, each with countless variations. Any induction method may also be used as a method of deepening or intensifying the hypnotic experience, and methods may be combined in almost any order. The choice of an appropriate induction for any given child depends on the needs and preferences of the child and on the experience and creativity of the therapist. Success is certain to be limited if a therapist is competent only in the use and application of one or two induction techniques for children or attempts to utilize techniques suited for adults without providing or integrating modifications that may be necessary for child patients.
