The larceny of desire: The Madonna in seventeenth-century Catholic Europe

In this article, I shall try to unravel the complex mesh of maternity and desire. I shall try to show that even where the elements which compose the family remain the same, simply changing the way in which they are combined radically changes the construction of sexuality.
