ABSTRACT
All three groups of writers show some unease in placing Butler: She does not fit neatly into any categories. This article aims to show the actual coherence of her ideas by looking at the religious categories in which she worked, and it is hoped that by addressing the usual feminist criticisms of Butler also to shed some light on the methodology of her detractors.
