ABSTRACT

Here I do hope that you will remember Murti's assertion that there are two main currents of Indian philosophy, each of which had a totally different background of tradition and conception of reality. However, he did not make clear what is 'totally different background and conception of reality'. If we were to suppose that it is the firm tradition of Sat and Asat, it is easily understandable why Vedanta and Buddhism, by extension Hindu philosophy and Buddhist philosophy, even though extremely similar to each other, are still possessed of a difference in content that cannot be ignored. It is, I would think, the two currents of Sat and Asat that lie at the basis of Indian philosophy.
