ABSTRACT

Given the time-depth suggested by the ascribed authorship of the ginans [02: 2], it is tempting to conclude that they might be used to illustrate earlier stages of one or another local language, as has been attempted for Sindhi [Baloch 1962: 1 04-116]. But the transmission of the texts is so uncertainly established [02: I] that such attempts must for the present be less secure than those cautiously based upon firmer textual traditions [e.g. Shackle 1977].
