ABSTRACT
Very young children have always been somewhat mysterious to their parents: The common term, the ‘terrible twos’, in part reflects parents’ lack of understanding of the manifold changes taking place in their offspring. Very young children have also remained mysterious to scientists, in large part because they have been, until recently, relatively neglected by developmental researchers.
