ABSTRACT

A number of the chapters in this volume have already referred to the value of systems approaches in addressing environmental economics and policy issues. This chapter discusses important developments over the last two decades in understanding innovation from a systems perspective, and examines the framework this provides for drawing policy implications in relation to promoting innovation for environmental and sustainability ends. More specific questions on the argument for environmental innovation policy and the types of policy instruments available are taken up in Chapter 7.
