ABSTRACT

The title of this book is Changing Schools in an Era of Globalization. Readers will have immediately recognized the ambiguity in the words “changing schools.” On the one hand, there is acknowledgment of a phenomenon in which schools are changing as a matter of course in response to a range of forces. On the other hand, there is an imperative—a challenge—to change schools because such change is necessary. Whichever meaning is chosen, there are powerful implications for leaders and leadership. If change is to occur, there must be leadership. If change does not occur, there is either a failure of leadership or none is required—management of the status quo will suffice.
