ABSTRACT
Introduction Uzbek, both in tenns of eultural importanee and number of speakers, is the seeond Turkie language after Turkish. As the latter is the sueeessor of Ottoman Turkish, U zbek as a literary idiom is the eontinuation of Chaghatay in what was onee the foeal area ofuse for that written language (see Chapter 9).
