ABSTRACT

Introduction Noghay belongs to the South Kipchak group of Turldc languages, sharing the main characteristics of Kazakh, Karakalpak and Kirghiz. The designation goes back to the name of Emir Noghay (d. 1299). Noghay tribes played an important role in the Golden Horde, notably in the fifteenth century, their main area of influence being the steppes between the Volga and the Urals.
