ABSTRACT

One of the most prominent theories in political science is the Democratic Peace Theory. It is a theory developed by political scientists and employed by policymakers. Many would say this is how it should be-that there is a bridge between academics and policymakers and that both work together towards good policy. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. As a matter of fact, it is the case much too rarely. But the Democratic Peace Theory is a good example where political science research impacted policy. The development and application of this theory also illustrates the symbiotic relationship between scholars of politics at universities on the one hand and politicians in government on the other. In recent years we have seen the theory applied in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and others.
