ABSTRACT
The work outlined in the previous chapter raises certain fundamental questions about human nature which underlie any study of religion from a sociological angle. We start with an examination of the proposition that sociological theories have their foundation in assumptions about human nature, but this is not all, for the ideas of religion are also rooted in conceptions of the nature of human beings.
