Social Memory as it Emerges

The objective of this chapter is to reconsider the question of the relationship between social memory and individual experience. This raises the issue of what is meant by a ‘society’ that can preserve social memory. I would like to approach this problem by focusing on the emergence of social memory as the memories themselves are precipitated during social processes.
