ABSTRACT
In ®rst encountering children and adults who were dissociative, especially those who came from a background of ritual abuse, Dr Robert Hale and I were extremely concerned by the apparent lack of police involvement. As DCI Driscoll states below, the situation for victims of abuse has improved over the last 30 years, especially in relation to vulnerable victims, despite the dif®culties of bringing to court crimes for which the only witnesses are usually the victim and the perpetrator.
