ABSTRACT

This chapter moves on from looking at the product and its definition and introduces the major decisions which decide how the project is carried out. It gives an overall view of strategic planning and control systems of the project. The overall strategy is sometimes pulled together in a project execution plan (PEP) or master plan, which guides the team on the organisation, time, cost, quality, information and risk allocation and identifies the planning and control systems. An approach that recognises the relationship between the strategic subsystems will help to provide a more integrated approach and smoothes the path of the project manager who needs to co-ordinate these systems.
