ABSTRACT

Judging the historical significance of an event, issue or a people plays an important role in public life but until recently has not been widely taught in schools history. It was first introduced in the revised National Curriculum for History in 1995 but only took its place as a concept in its own right in 2007. The 2007 definition states:

1.5 Significance a. Considering the significance of events, people and developments in their

historical context and in the present day.
