ABSTRACT
The legacy of student appraisal is rooted in the vocational guidance movement whereby school counselors used standardized tests to assess student knowledge, skills, abilities, and aptitudes in order to make the most advantageous occupational choices. The movement gained popularity and school counselors began coordinating and administering assessments to make school placement decisions and to monitor student achievement. Assessment in educational practices has a long history. In this educational climate of accountability and results-based outcomes, a secure shelf life is certain-death and taxes.
