ABSTRACT

We live in a society that has its eyes focused on the future, and the future can take many forms, such as school outcomes, stock market investments, or global warming. As a society, we don’t often take the time to focus on a moment in the moment, particularly in classroom environments, where time is often prescribed and broken into smaller, disconnected blocks. The focus of this chapter is to consider how observation can be used as a tool and a methodology that brings the moment into clearer focus and, in essence, slows down moments of learning so that they can be viewed as invitations to deeper understanding about children’s development.
