ABSTRACT

What, again, is Bengali Islam? This last chapter ventures back on the slippery ground we entered in the beginning of this study. Evidently, a study of Maijbhandar cannot possibly supply sufficient material for any full-scale assessment of this problematic. But it may give us some clues on how to tackle this issue, furnishing as it does a lot of data for the contemporary position of shrine and pīr veneration, Sufism and the constellation of Bengal and Islam vis-à-vis each other.
