ABSTRACT
Thus far, this study has been concerned primarily with U.S. policy. It has examined in some detail both the debate about Gulf security in the United States and the content of U.S. policy toward the region. In the following two chapters, the scope of the analysis is expanded to include the broader political and strategic problems that security considerations in the Middle East have posed to the Western alliance.
