ABSTRACT
For the good of self and others: control among the Hutterites Basically, there are two ways of limiting deviant behaviour among the Hutterites. One is to ensure in advance that members will not want to deviate; the other is to ensure that if they nevertheless do deviate, they can quickly be brought back into line. The two are related in that prior knowledge of the consequences of deviation is in itself meant to deter people from it.
