ABSTRACT
I It has been the fate of many of Simmel’s essays to lead a life of their own, far away from their original context. At the same time, other essays treating similar themes are often either not dealt with at all or are examined in completely different constellations. The present investigation seeks to bring together three complexes of work that are usually seen in isolation from one another. In some cases, they have hardly begun to be examined at all.
