ABSTRACT
Reading aloud, listening and enjoying are the essential first steps to writing poetry. Regularly read poetry aloud to your class and to yourself – just for the poem, not for any follow-up work or to make any point. Poem for the Day or a good anthology (see Bibliography, p. 97) will provide a wealth of varied poetry.
