ABSTRACT

An early childhood education curriculum is any program or planned experiences for young children. It is a comprehensive instructional guide for day-to-day interactions with young children. Curriculum is the “what” of early childhood education and the content that the young children need to learn (Lieber et al., 2008). It is designed to make sure all children (including diverse children) have the opportunity to actively engage in the context in which the curriculum is presented. One of the early childhood teachers’ major responsibilities is to make sure that young children with disabilities also have access to the general curriculum including the most critical knowledge across developmental and content areas that all children are expected to learn (Division for Early Childhood, 2007). Such “knowledge” then becomes the most important concern in considering all of the children’s individual differences to make sure that all children progress within the general curriculum (Lieber et al., 2008).
