ABSTRACT

This was a comment made by a fourth-year student when reflecting on her final school experience placement. Note that she makes a difference between what she wants to achieve and what she thinks she will be able to accomplish. It is a comment from a reflective student who has a confident and developing sense of the kind of teacher she wants to be. Also in her initial teacher training she has learnt that schools can be very different as contexts for teaching and learning. Some of these contexts will be encouraging, stimulating and rewarding, while others will be much less so. Becoming a teacher and continuing our professional development is a challenging and complex business. Reflection-onpractice that is structured, challenging and supported is an essential part of this process.
