ABSTRACT

It was Plato who said ‘know thyself ’; such apparently simple wisdom and yet it begs the question of how well any of us do or can truly have insights into who we are. Not that we should be daunted in any way from trying to fi nd out more. In fact if we accept the idea that greater awareness leads to deeper understanding and that increased understanding leads to greater self-control (of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours), then the task of raising self-awareness can bring rapid and valuable benefi ts.
