ABSTRACT

Recording the Chatterbox. The children could start to notice the commentary of the   voice in their heads during activities and, most usefully here, during conversations. What is the voice saying? What is its tone? What feelings is it producing? A more structured version of this activity is ‘Hearing Impediments?’ in Chapter 15 (page 74). Speaking, Listening, Thinking. Ask the children to listen to a friend who will describe   a holiday or hobby to them. The listener concentrates on what is being said and notices their own thoughts, but must say nothing. After the monologue has fi nished, they share what they were thinking and feeling throughout the description. Finally, ask them to draw a storyboard together of some of the key moments in the conversation and to add their thoughts in bubbles.
