ABSTRACT

Pride and humility have their roles to play in Western society. More often than not captains of industry have until recently displayed signs of overt pride rather than humility. And they have been feared, followed, and admired for it, to the point that pride has in fact become an indication of how a real leader can be recognized. Leadership development programs, on the other hand, do not emphasize this trait, but rather foster humble cooperation. This is typical of our ambivalence about pride.
