Informal community learning in traditional Africa

This chapter presents items from indigenous African education with a focus on the components of community learning especially its informal and lifelong dimensions. With a special reference to institutions of ‘higher education’ as an aspect of community learning in traditional African education – including secret cults, divinities and some other aspects of traditional education – the chapter attempts to provide some ‘outside’ grounds for bolstering the drive towards innovations in contemporary dialogue and practice in lifelong learning.
