ABSTRACT

There is nothing like a royal visit from Denmark to boost the team spirit of a Danish community abroad. The Danish Shanghailanders were therefore delighted at the news that Crown Prince Frederik, accompanied by his brother Prince Knud and their cousin Prince Axel, would be coming to the Far East early in 1930 on board the E.A.C. vessel, the Fionia. Princess Margaretha, married to Prince Axel, accompanied them as did Waldemar Bache, chamberlain, who later wrote the book Dagbogsblade fra Kronprinsens Rejse til Østen [The Crown Prince's Voyage to the Orient], published 1931. The ship was scheduled to arrive in Shanghai in March. On the occasion of the royal visit in 1930, the Danish Society gave a dinner at the Hotel Majestic. Kirsten was in charge of decorating the large hall with beautiful floral arrangements on the tables and Danish flags and Chinese lamps. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315028637/9576ae74-a4b5-4497-b28c-fb9fe2dfdca6/content/fig135_B.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
