ABSTRACT

Getting innovations adopted by complex organisations is often a slow process and one that requires careful persistent efforts. An understanding of the dynamics within which one is working (e.g. those operating within the care team, unit, programme or wider organisation) and what the barriers are to change might be (e.g. resources, performance targets etc.) is required. Potential champions and allies of the approach to be adopted will also need to be identified. In this chapter we describe the implementation issues of getting our Shared Assessment, Formulation and Education (SAFE) approach adopted into routine practice in the various settings we have highlighted as suitable. We reference the good practice literature and identify what lessons can be learned from it, as well as what we have learned ourselves from both our successes and mistakes to date.
