ABSTRACT

In keeping with the need-adapted principle described in Chapter 2, separate elements of the Shared Assessment, Formulation and Education (SAFE) approach can be adopted for use in different settings. In this chapter we suggest where these can be most appropriately applied. In Chapter 17 we discuss in more detail some of the issues in implementing SAFE and describe our own experience of doing so. For the purposes of the present chapter, however, it is useful to consider the following:

• the amount of time available; • the level of resources available; • the level of expertise and appropriate skills available; • existing service priorities; • which clients currently raise the most concern; • current service approaches and models that might adapt themselves most

readily to SAFE processes.
