ABSTRACT

SUZANNE delivered a premature baby who was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A music therapist provided music that helped to lower the baby’s heart rate, increased oxygen intake, and shortened her stay in the NICU. Peter was extremely anxious about his upcoming surgical procedure. Fortunately, his physician used music to help calm his nerves, and as a consequence he needed fewer drugs during the procedure. Magda and Ace were rock musicians; she was a keyboardist suffering from carpel tunnel syndrome and he was a rock drummer with an ulnar neuropathy (a compressed nerve in the elbow). They went to a physician who specialized in performance-related injuries who was able to help them heal so that they could resume their careers.
