ABSTRACT

This chapter is about “turning your thoughts” into a “vision” of your own teacher research study. Your vision can be conceived of as a plan for doing your research. As with most plans, the final result may look different from the original plan due to unforeseen events that occur along the way. Therefore it is important to treat your research plan as a work in progress and be willing to make adjustments as they are needed and as “winds change.” It is important to have a plan that can be modified and to have the flexibility to make changes as appropriate. This chapter is about planning a teacher research study once a question has been formulated and refined. Examples will be given showing the role of planning in teacher research studies. Ethical issues such as teacher researcher responsibilities to the young child, coercion, confidentiality, child and parental consent, and working with human subject review boards will be addressed.
