ABSTRACT

In the last two chapters we have been discussing some of the specific ways that a logic of domination manifests itself in our lives through our relationships and institutions. An EcoJustice framework helps us to understand the ways that value hierarchies insinuate themselves into our day-to-day interactions making notions of superiority and inferiority almost “second nature.” This mindset or sensibility-even “common sense”—is created through a historically embedded discursive system that leads to the exploitation of groups of people as well as the morethan-human world. As we’ve been saying, a logic of domination manifests itself in all sorts of ways; once we can begin to identify how it works, we can also decide to stop contributing to it.
