ABSTRACT

In this chapter we change gears, focusing in on the particularities of neoliberalization. Here the main protagonists of EU financial market integration, transnationally oriented fractions of capital, will be introduced. I will begin by outlining their membership and organization within financial trade associations. Through a brief analysis of their accumulation strategies (developed further in later chapters) the basis is laid for understanding the ‘material’ factors shaping their interests. This term captures – for analytic purposes – the scale of their operations, their function in the overall circuit of capital, and the underlying socio-institutional configurations.
