ABSTRACT

Develop child’s affect management skills with tie to heroes’ abilities and how heroes need to practice skill development

Overview

The image of heroes, male and female, can be utilized to renew children’s hope and the courage to continue along a journey of recovery, moving beyond the constraints of their fears. Therapists can often utilize assessments of attachments to tap into a child’s unspoken wishes, identify people from the child’s past who acted as a child’s hero, or to build relationships with new people who could become heroes and help overcome traumas. Imagery of heroes can also ward off feelings of vulnerability and help children feel safe enough to experiment with new solutions.
