ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 helps children recall positive events in their lives and utilize these events to shape positive beliefs about their competence and identity. This chapter can be used to enhance children’s pride in their accomplishments and to tie this to how they would like to make their world better, for instance, with a campaign slogan if they were was running for president. These activities promote a sense of the child’s life as a quest, in which the child can help others, and at the same time, build a positive identity, rather then remain feeling stuck as “damaged,” a “victim,” or as unforgivably “bad.”
