ABSTRACT

The workbook can be adapted for children with moderate developmental delays or learning disabilities. For some children, narrative responses may be only a single word, while more verbal children may want to generate multipage stories for every topic. Additional guidance and help is needed for children with cognitive abilities under age six. Therapists or caring adults may need to read text to children and help them spell words, working carefully to reflect the children’s responses without bias. Adults can also write out the child’s dictated story on notepaper or on a word processor. Then, either the adult or the child can copy the story onto the appropriate page of Real Life Heroes.
