ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the interaction between learning in the workplace and learning through vocationally oriented educational activities at schools and on courses. Typical examples of this are, of course, training/work experience programmes, for example apprenticeships, and a number of professional educational programmes, such as nursing training, that provide elementary training for a particular vocation and which involve a combination of school and practical learning. However, such interaction also takes place when employees take part in workoriented courses or programmes of training at a school or arranged by another external provider.
