ABSTRACT

In the introductory essay to this volume we defined and outlined our ideas and views on circulation, which derive from our respective experience in two very dissimilar, but at the same time comparable, parts of the Third World. The essays which followed have demonstrated that these views and ideas relate to the experience of other researchers drawn from a variety of disciplines and working elsewhere in the Third World in a variety of differing physical environmental and cultural, social and economic circumstances.
